An above ground pool vacuum robot cleans the floor and stops at the wall. The two models rated for above-ground pools, the Dolphin E10 and the Aiper Seagull SE, are floor-only on the spec sheets. Wall climbing depends on what your pool wall is made of.
Floor-only is what the spec sheet actually says
Maytronics lists the Dolphin E10 with Pool Classification “Above Ground”, Cleaning Coverage “Floor” and Anti Tangling Swivel “No”. It handles pools to 8 metres, cycles in 1.5 hours and carries a two-year warranty. The Canadian page lists no price, only a dealer locator.
Aiper’s own Seagull SE listing is blunter. Its FAQ says the robot “will not climb walls or stairs” and is not for “pools with wrinkles or large slopes (gets stuck)”.
Aiper rates it for round above-ground pools to 33 feet, 850 square feet, 90 minutes and 1,320 GPH. The corded E10 lists 4,000 GPH. Dropping the cable costs you two thirds of the rated flow.
The wall material decides whether anything climbs
Intex sets the rule itself. The ZX300 owner’s manual limits the cleaner to “Intex above ground frame pools (not suitable for Easy Set Pools or pools with inflatable top ring)”.
A frame pool has a wall behind the liner to push against. An inflatable ring pool has nothing.
The Intex European FAQ repeats the exclusion for its ZX500R robot, “except for Easy Set Pools, which have a inflatable top ring”. The US product page omits that line. Follow the manual.
For a robot that climbs, the Aiper Scuba S1 publishes a “90°±15° Wall Climbing Ability”, 1,600 square feet and 180 minutes of runtime. Its prose says “designed for both above-ground and in-ground pools” while its spec box lists Ideal Pool Type as “In-ground”.
Liner safety comes down to chemistry and wrinkles
Intex describes its liner as laminated PVC over a polyester mesh and bans undissolved chlorine from touching it. The E10 manual sets the robot’s window: chlorine 4 ppm maximum, pH 7.0 to 7.8, water between 6 and 35 °C, salt under 5,000 ppm.
The E10 needs 0.4 metres of water to run. A Seagull SE stalled on a liner fold keeps brushing one patch of vinyl until the cycle ends, so flatten wrinkles before the first run.
A pressure-side cleaner climbs where these robots stop
On an Intex frame pool, the ZX300 scrubs the wall to the waterline with no battery. It runs off an Intex filter pump rated between 1,600 and 3,500 gallons per hour and covers round pools to 26 feet or ovals to 32 by 16 feet.
Suction is 700 gallons per hour, the hose is cut to your pool once, and the warranty is one year on the cleaner but 180 days on hoses and fittings.
The E10 manual requires a ground fault interrupter on the outlet and places the power supply 3.5 metres from the edge, rated IP 54: splash-proof, not submersible. A smart plug with energy monitoring on that outlet shows how long the transformer actually draws.
Check the recall before buying a used cordless unit
Health Canada recalled the Aiper Seagull Pro ZT6001 on 9 April 2025. Aiper reported 2,606 units sold in Canada from July 2023 to April 2024, and one unit caught fire while charging.
Affected serials begin with “61” and the remedy is a free Scuba S1. The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act bars reselling a recalled unit, yet Aiper’s Seagull SE page still shows the Seagull Pro in its comparison table at US$529.99.

Can any robot climb the wall of an Intex Easy Set pool?
Not by manufacturer rating. Intex excludes Easy Set and inflatable top ring pools from both its ZX300 cleaner and its ZX500R robot.
Will a floor-only robot damage a vinyl liner?
The manufacturers frame the risk as chemistry and wrinkles rather than the brush. Keep chlorine at or below 4 ppm and pH between 7.0 and 7.8 per the E10 manual, and flatten liner folds before a run.
Is a cordless above ground robot worth the lower suction?
Aiper’s own table gives the answer: the Seagull SE trades two thirds of the E10’s rated flow for a 7.6-pound body and no cable. Under 850 square feet with a pump doing the filtering, that is usually acceptable.
