One of the most anticipated and popular demands from WhatsApp users is Dark Mode, and thanks to the eagle-eyed team at WABetaInfo, we learn that the feature is in the works. This means that we will soon see Dark Mode come to the stable WhatsApp build and not just to the Beta version of the app.
Dark Mode to Soon Come to WhatsApp
Using Dark Mode in the WhatsApp messaging app will turn its UI in a dark color scheme – but not completely black. It will be a dark gray, and we saw it in several screenshots from the WhatsApp beta users and from the WABetaInfo Twitter.
The recent news of WhatsApp Dark Mode first began with the WABetaInfo team posting on Twitter:
“I know that it might be very ironic, but WhatsApp has completely removed the dark mode (that was under development) in the Android app.”
They explained that they had no idea why the app removed the feature in the Beta, adding that the devs “removed every reference in the 2.19.123 update” and then there were “no tracks of it in the 2.19.124 update too..”
Concluding that the WhatsApp team might develop the Dark Mode through a different approach, the bad news already was spread among the fans. However, this week WABetaInfo came back with more news, announcing that the Dark Mode for Android is back again in Beta, followed by images from inside the app showing how the dark mode looks.
System-Wide Dark Mode for Android and iOS
At Google I/O we were all happy that Android Q will come with a system-wide Dark Mode, and saw it in their presentation. Apple will also reveal a similar feature at WWDC Developers Conference which will take place in June.
Considering the WhatsApp team has been working on the Dark Mode for a while, we can only hope that the feature is close to being announced for the app!
