One of the biggest disadvantages of the Android ecosystem is represented by its fragmented nature. While Apple provides major updates for a period of five years those that buy an Android device consider themselves lucky if they receive the updates released in the first two years after the device was launched.
Motorola is one of the manufacturers that try in their earnest to combat this flaw by releasing the latest updates on a large selection of its devices.
The Android Pie update is being rolled out for select Motorola devices. Devices that are a part of the Moto G, Moto X and Moto Z will receive the update in the following months.
The Moto Z devices that are compatible with the new update are:
- Moto Z3 Play
- Moto Z2 Force
- Moto Z2 Play
These Moto G series will also receive the update
- Moto G6
- Moto G6 Plus
- Moto G6 Play
It is thought that the entire Moto X series will get the new update. The upcoming X4 should be launched with Android Pie right from the start. The list of confirmed devices may seem to be a little thin but it is likely that new smartphones will be added in the future.
Here are some of the features that are brought by the new update:
Gesture navigation
Users will be able to perform a variety of tasks by using the new and intuitive gesture navigation system.
Improved notifications
An improved notification system will allow users to quickly respond and react in a variety of situations. If the notification is swiped away an option to disable future notification from the same app will appear.
Adaptive brightness
The Adaptive Brightness system will be able to associate certain brightness levels with specific locations and time periods, allowing a seamless tradition that fits the user’s needs.
Snap screenshots faster
The option to take a screenshot will appear upon long-pressing the power button.
A revamped DND feature
The revamped Do Not Disturb feature will also block notifications from contacts that aren’t starred.
