Tommy Chong, popular comedian and actor best known for his marijuana based humor announced Saturday on CNN that he is battling prostate cancer. Chong was on CNN discussing recent attempts to decriminalize marijuana in the city of New York. Chong stated “I’ve got prostate cancer, and I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis.”
According to Chong he first begin to notice symptoms while in jail eight years ago for selling drug paraphernalia but wasn’t officially diagnosed with the disease until about a month ago. Chong went on to describe the cancer as a “slow stage one” that he has had for several years.
Chong doesn’t smoke marijuana anymore because of health reasons but told CNN he takes hemp oil “at night, so I won’t be woozy all day.”
Undeterred by his cancer diagnosis Cheech and Chong will continue to tour as a comedic duo including upcoming shows this fall in California and Florida.
